Amazon faces UK investigation over anti-competitive concerns

Amazon faces UK investigation

A competing British watchdog is investigating whether Amazon offers unfair profits to retailers who pay for additional services.

A British competitive observer investigates that Amazon hurts competition and hurts consumers by offering unfair profits to sellers who pay for additional services.

An official investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority said on Wednesday it would address concerns that the e-commerce giant was abusing its power to undermine competitors, in line with a similar investigation by the European Union Commission and a German opposition agency.

Amazon said it would work closely with the CMA during the investigation.

“We believe we’ve always worked hard to help small Amazon retailers succeed, which benefits them and us,” the company said. “We are always proud of the continued support we provide to businesses of all sizes across the U.K.”
