Clearstream Agency: With Strategic Communications, Paves a New Way

It’s difficult to find a strong leader with a positive attitude and extensive industry expertise. Wendy Watson is that unique leader, with more than two decades of expertise building brand initiatives that stimulate cultural discourse, promote customer involvement, and positively impact the bottom line. Wendy started Clearstream Agency in 2015, and her fast-growing company has been recognised for its groundbreaking artificial intelligence work. Wendy, one of the leading firms in its area today, has risen to a spectacular position in the industry, serving as an inspiration to many aspiring entrepreneurs motivated by a passion.

The Beginning

Wendy believes in the importance of a great concept and its capacity to develop, having spent more than two decades crafting award-winning campaigns. She was influenced to rethink the traditional agency model with the establishment of Clearstream, replacing the approach to professional service with the successful ‘Hollywood model’ of business, what Hollywood can teach us about the future of work, during her years as a leader at one of the top US agencies. This resulted in improved client happiness, lower attrition, and better quality work from selected strategic account teams.

Starting a new business comes with a slew of difficulties. Frequently, the firm you establish will be 10,000 times different than the original idea you started with. Wendy learnt early in her career that successful businesses are Darwinian in nature, adapting to shifting market conditions or dying. She is a leader who anticipated problems and setbacks as part of her business venture. She thought that in every business, one must prepare to stumble and enjoy the process; every company evolves, but success is mostly determined by how one adapts to that evolution and the micro mistakes along the route. You must be willing (and ready) to fail and learn from your mistakes at all times. Wendy created her success route with this grounded and cheerful attitude, learning from life’s lessons and eventually building one of the leading corporations today.

Clearstream is a multi-award-winning boutique firm that specialises in designing integrated communications strategies that help clients create brands across multiple platforms. The company is privately held and has offices in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Dallas. Clearstream’s results-driven campaigns have been honoured by several press and marketing groups for their strategic communications that use PR, advertising, and digital platforms to create conversation and grow brands. Clearstream was recently named one of Silicon Review’s

“50 Best Companies to Watch in 2019” and earned Finance Monthly’s “Game Changers Award” for its groundbreaking AI innovation. Clearstream’s clientele include innovative startups, established brands, and Fortune 500 companies.

The Leader of the Future

Wendy spent 18 years as an Executive Vice President at Porter Novelli, a multinational Omnicom PR firm, before launching Clearstream Agency. She worked in both their east and west coast offices, and she essentially grew up at the firm, climbing through the ranks to become the company’s youngest SVP ever. Working with worldwide firms situated in Asia, Europe, and North America, she was fortunate to have clients on three continents. Some of her former clients followed her to Clearstream, and they are still working with them now.

Wendy Watson, the company’s CEO and Founder, is a multi-award-winning advertising executive, a patent holder, and a frequent guest lecturer at UCLA Anderson School of Business. Financial Monthly called her a “Inspiring Women in Tech 2019” and a “Game Changer,” and she was chosen one of CEO Today’s “Business Women of the Year 2019.” She was also named one of PRWeek’s “40 Under 40 Stars of PR.” She has led efforts for some of the world’s most well-known firms, including Disney, Hewlett Packard, Marriott, Mercedes-Benz, MGM, Procter & Gamble, Qualcomm, and Verizon, over the course of her career.

The Success Strategy

Clearstream has been extremely lucky, since their agency has grown by double digits year after year since its inception just four years ago. Their growth approach is straightforward: provide the finest work possible for all clients while adhering to the principle of underpromising and overdelivering. As a result, clients keep around and frequently recommend Clearstream’s services to others. Their client list includes firms and clients with whom they have worked for years, if not decades.

Wendy thinks that core principles define every organisation, just as they do every individual. To stay properly motivated and achieve true achievement, there must be a higher calling. Although Clearstream’s client list is diverse, the agency’s common goal is to make a difference — to contribute to the betterment of humanity. Their purpose is to educate and empower people, whether through promoting life-changing work by non-profits, introducing an innovative App that improves communities, or collaborating with world-renowned educational institutions. Wendy is motivated by Rumi’s remark, “Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.”

A Vision for the Future

The company’s tagline is “Ahead of the Current.” They take pride in going against the grain, and their clientele of innovators and budding leaders inspires them. Clearstream’s early work in artificial intelligence, even before the AI “Goldrush,” helped them establish a foothold in the field and brought them several cutting-edge clients who are changing the world. Their bottom-line approach to strategic communications has attracted clients from a variety of industries, including technology, healthcare, hotels, and nonprofits.

Female-owned firms continue to confront funding and support challenges as a society, particularly in the startup and tech worlds. Data shows that there has never been a better time to be a female founder; for example, according to American Express’s 2018 study, women start 1,821 companies per day in the United States, and women-owned businesses generated $3.1 trillion in revenue and 2.2 million jobs last year. However, the $2.2 billion in venture capital raised for female founders accounts for only 2.2 percent of total venture capital raised.

Despite controlling the global consumer sector with an estimated $40 trillion in yearly expenditure, women continue to be underrepresented. What can we do to change these numbers?

Clearstream strives to help other women by referring and aligning with other female-owned businesses, hiring working mothers, and developing roles that allow for flexibility in the workplace.

Clearstream Agency is the outcome of a strong lady who refused to give up in the face of defeat and instead used her strength to take the next step. Wendy is a strong lady who has helped her company and its employees achieve success.
