About the company

The use of Big Data is becoming a crucial way for leading companies to outperform their peers. In most industries, established competitors and new entrants alike will leverage data-driven strategies to innovate, compete, and capture value. In healthcare, data pioneers are analyzing the health outcomes of pharmaceuticals when they were widely prescribed, and discovering benefits and risks that were not evident during necessarily more limited clinical trials. Other early adopters of Big Data are using data from sensors embedded in products from children’s toys to industrial goods to determine how these products are actually used in the real world. Such knowledge then informs the creation of new service offerings and the design of future products.

Cloudera was established in 2008 by top tech companies in Silicon Valley, including Google, Yahoo!, Oracle (Mike Olson), and Facebook (Jeff Hammer bacher). Cloudera founders believe that open source, open standards, and open markets are best. This belief is crucial to the firm’s values.

Doug Cutting, co-creator of Hadoop joined the company in 2009 as Chief Architect and remains to be in the same post. At present, the company has over 1,600 employees and established offices in 24 countries with its headquarters in Palo Alto, California.

Cloudera’s CSR activities

Cloudera has provided more than 4,000 employee hours and cooperated with more than 20 non-profit organisations around the world since its start. Many non-profits seek to be data-driven, but lack the resources to put these programmes in place and manage them. Cloudera Cares is dedicated to assisting not-for-profits in bridging these gaps, both in terms of data and people. Cloudera Cares teamed with DataKind in 2014 to help non-profits drive their own data strategies and advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence deployments.

Thorn, who built its Spotlight tool on Cloudera software, maintained the data-driven theme with Cloudera Cares. Through the usage of Spotlight, 6,000+ sexual trafficking victims were identified in 2016, with 2,000+ being children, according to Thorn’s Impact Report. In 2016, the collaboration between Cloudera Cares and Thorn was expanded to include Cloudera’s Enterprise Data Hub and professional services hours.

Cloudera Cares has collaborated with DataKind and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society since its debut in early 2014. (LLS). Cloudera’s offices will host events in support of local charities in addition to their collaborations with these organisations. Cloudera Cares also gives back to the community by organising and funding hackathons that support the Data-For-Good initiative.

Regulatory compliance : From Dodd-Frank, CCAR, and BCBS239 to Know Your Customer (KYC) and OATS, enforce and scale compliance with an ever-changing collection of laws. An business data hub is the most effective approach for keeping detailed audit trails and making all of your data accessible for analysis.

Fraud prevention and AML : Enrich and analyse complete data sets at rest and flowing in real-time across systems to detect and prevent fraud. Create machine learning models that can forecast cybercrime, money laundering, and insider threats with near-perfect accuracy and speed.

Proactive Quality Assurance : It costs 100 times more to fix a problem during maintenance than it does in pre-production. With a corporate data hub, you can cut development time in half while also responding to performance issues in real time and removing faults before they are manufactured.
