The engineering company recently announced its decision to invest 3 billion euros in the manufacturing of chips by 2026.
Among these 3 billion, a total of 170 million euros will go to the development of two centers the company is planning to open in Reutlingen and Dresden. The world’s largest automobile supplier Bosch has applied for investment from Important Projects for Common European Interests (IPCEI) to boost chip production from 8% to 20% by 2030.
What are Chips?
Building layers of interconnected patterns on a silicon plate or disc is called a Microchip. In today’s world microchips are used in almost every device we use, like- cars, smartphones, medical equipment, gaming tools, etc.
After the global pandemic, the distress of the supply chain and semiconductor shortage was widely seen. Bosch is thus increasing the production of chips of its own, all the while researching on making those chips even more efficient than before.
